Location: Monona Terrace; Madison, Wisconsin

I walked out of work on May 15 to this Honor Guard right outside the door and the dirge of bagpipes. Hundreds of emergency response personnel (paramedics, firemen, police and pilots) from around Wisconsin came to pay tribute to the Madison med-flight crew (pilot, nurse and doctor) that was killed on May 10 when their helicopter crashed into a hill near La Crosse after delivering a patient to the hospital there. One

It was a very emotional shoot. There were times that I couldn’t hold the camera still because I was moved to tears and shaking. I could only take a couple of shots from the front and had to stop and I ignored a couple of really good photo ops that I ignored- Mayor Dave walking through the Honor Guard and a group of pilots in their flight suits wearing their wings; it seemed too intrusive. I quickly realized that the photo story was in the hands of the honor guard members; some were still, others fidgeted. One thing that struck me was how straight the lines were.
