Detail of the bloom of a Melaleuca in Geelong, Victoria.
Behind the scenes
This image is best viewed large and from a medium distance. Both the abstract and detailed portions are meant to blend and be viewed at once. The effect is to create something reminiscent of those novelty fibre-optic lamps in lighting stores, with the thin filaments twinkling.
The original colour RAW was adjusted for exposure and sharpness in Aperture 3 and converted to B&W in Nik Silver Efex 2 where contrast, tone and structure were manually processed.
