This gorgeous goose is a Nene (pronounced ‘NAY Nay’, more or less), or Hawaiian Goose (Branta sandvicensis), a relative of the Canada Goose (Branta canadensis), & a truly endangered (though making a good recovery as it breeds well in captivity) species. It is a beautiful creature & is Hawai’i’s official State Bird. Note its oddly ‘half-webbed’ feet & long toes ~ it is more at home climbing about the volcanic clinker & other rough-&-tumble terrain of the Islands than it is in the water, or for that matter, in the air.

This example was found eating salad at the Gooseneck Hill Waterfowl Farm between Delevan & West Valley, NY, about 40 minutes from where we live. Gooseneck Hill is a splendid place with what purports to be the largest covered aviary in the United States. Or perhaps in the world. It has 6 acres of aviary containing 4 ponds, many ups & downs, enchanting (almost literally) vistas, & a mind-boggling array of water birds.
