In honor of Father’s Day upcoming (Sunday, 16 June 2013), here is my father. This was taken before he ever thought of me or anything like me (& there isn’t much of anything like me anyway), & it’s a fairly lousy picture, but it’ll do. He’s about ten years old here, which would make it 1920 or so. It was taken near the family home at Lewiston Heights, NY.
So here’s to Charlie ~ Charles William McConnell (1910 ~ 1979), a mere tadpole in them days. Fourteen years later, in 1934, he looked more like this.
As it happens, this Father’s Day would also have been my mother’s 101st birthday. This fact bruises, boggles & otherwise blows my tiny mind, but somehow, Time marches on. And it, along with Tide, waits for no one.
The two of them, Gladys & Charlie, can be seen together here.
