Artist's Description

  • Original artwork by Kerryn Madsen-Pietsch ©2017, Innisfail, FNQ.
  • Artwork support: Pallet. made from reclaimed (recycled) withered FNQ hardwood Silky Oak timber boards x 7, each approx. 18mm thick.
  • Artwork area size: Approx. 1 metre square
  • Various flora subject matter – such as vines, various tree leaves, seeds, seedpods, crows ash teak, black palm, burny beans, velvet bean (mucuna gigantea), Davidsons plum, cassowary food – most of which were sourced directly from my own home garden backyard of tropical rainforest offerings and used to work directly from, i.e. observing, interpreting their forms and shapes.
  • Artwork techniques/mediums: Carving with chisels, mallet, also a dremel and painting with transparent acrylic wood gels/glazing, to emphasize/champion the uniqueness of the recycled old thick timber boards.
  • Work was completed for the fundraising group exhibition “One Tree Matters” and later auctioned to help with buying of trees for the reforestation of Cassowary country, south of Tully, Tropical North Queensland, Australia.
