When We Rule The World

I got up early this morning
And moved ahead despite the warning
From the cute, no-brain anchor on TV
Telling me the world will end, just wait and see

As I arose to a yellow sun
I recalled a time when life was fun,
Free from the repeating bubbleheads of gloom,
Watching Beaver and Wally in my family room

And I thought:
If I ran the world
I would restore hope
So the children can smile
And old folks linger a while
So we could all sit and talk
Without interruption
Without daily influences
Peddling our destruction

Pouring my coffee a thought occurred
About the stupid things that I had heard
Wondering what my grandfather would say
About overly lip-glossed TV newsies today

Sitting in the quite I welcomed the day
Something I learned from grandfather’s ways
The thought of him brought a smile to my face
He would not like them, he would hate this pace

And I thought:
If he ran the world,
He would restore hope
So the children could smile
And old folks linger a while
So we could all sit and talk
Without interruption
Without daily influences
Peddling our destruction

This morning I recalled the neighborhood
Where I grew up, and life was good
Free from the PC ways that abound today
Back in a time when news had something to say

It’s sad to me how we turned out
We’ve learned to cry, frown and pout
We can’t do anything for fear of hurting someone
So bound up we can’t finish what was begun

And I thought:
When we run the world,
We should restore hope
So the children can smile
And old folks linger a while
So we can all sit and talk
Without interruption
Without daily influences
Peddling our destruction
When we run the world

Artist's Description

A song lyric about what should be done in the future…or do we have it in our power to do this today? And if so, why aren’t we changing the world so it’s a better place for future generations?
