Artist's Description

The deep green foliage of a sago palm contrasted against a blanket of snow, this photo is another in the documentary series of photographs of the unusually heavy snow in the northshore area of greater New Orleans area on December 11, 2008. This photo was taken in Covington, Louisiana.

The plant known as the sago palm by locals is a highly popular landscape plant in southeastern Louisiana. As I understand it, this plant is actually a tropical in the cyclad family. The deep green fronds are used to decorate local churches in the celebration of Palm Sunday. This plant was approximately 5’ wide and 3’ tall.
