Red Tears for her child

The sounds of Mothers weeping for their children
Break the night silence with the shrieks of their broken hearts
Afraid to close their eyes
As the visions haunt them while they sleep
Bloody knees caused by countless hours of prayer
In hopes that the skies would open and save them
Save them from being witness to….

Children washed, dressed, coiffed
displayed on the auction stand like cattle
Shivering and shaking in fear
Knowing their destiny, afraid of their enemy

They are made to jump and run across the floor
Instructed to hold their head high and walk briskly back and forth
Visited and inspected by buyers and spectators
They feel their hands, arms and bodies
Open their mouths and check their teeth

Taken to a small house in the back
stripped and inspected
Whip marks and lashings would show signs of a disobedient slave

Weeping tears of a broken heart,
Shivering in Pain of a lost soul
She embraces him and tells him to remember her
To remember her face, her smell, her laughter her love

She kissed him over and over again
Her heart breaking, dying inside from the pain
All the while her tears
Red
falling to her sons face like raindrops from heaven
marking the ground he last touched
Red
The tears he will never see again

Artist's Description

Inspired by a true story about slave children… the bidding and exchange from one master to another. The countless families that were seperated in the name of labor & slavery. Many families to never see one another again.
