James Shepherd

My impressionistic paintings have been hand painted onto a blank screen canvas. / This is digital painting.

My name is James Shepherd. I have been hand painting in digital oil using Artrage software for approximately 20 years.
There has been a long learning curve to master the finer details of hand painting in this medium, but I find it most enjoyable, you never seem to stop learning new technique’s to use.
Please bear in mind that you do have to paint, it does not do it for you. I build my own colour palettes and develop my own brush/pallet knives and style to use.
I consider each painting I complete as a “Digital original”

My overall style is Impressionistic which includes: landscapes sea and sky, and horses, still life, flowers and plants, female figurative, nude and erotic, emotive and sensual, people and portraits.

When you look at them I try to make you feel the emotion and story line, which will be something added to the painting by you and then you will then own the painting.
The colour palette is limited to enable a heady atmosphere which draws you in to the question the painting is asking you.

If necessary I will alter the photo to suit, i.e. may change the sky, add more people, and delete items I do not want in the painting. I usually use Photoshop for this part. / When the photo now represents what I want to paint, it is ready to be loaded into ArtRage …
