Artist's Description

*Along the shore of Jumpoff Joe
With cedar scent in air
I watched the water’s golden glow
As sunset held my stare

As nature painted sky with strokes
Each one a different hue
Was glad there were no other folks
To mucky up my view

The only sound was from the trees
Their voice carried by wind
And quack of ducks around my knees
As daylight did rescind

I watched the wind upon the lake
Wrinkling it’s mirrored gleam
And thought that soon I’d surely wake
This had to be a dream*

This digital painting was inspired by a photo I took of the sun setting while camping with my wife at Jumpoff Joe lake north of Spokane, Washington in 2004. It was a wonderful trip, as it did not rain even one day while we were camped there. We went there during the week, and were almost the only people there. Our campsite was right on the the lake shore, and the friendly resident ducks would waddle around us without reservations or fear. Due to hard times, this is the last vacation my wife and I have had since then. Gotta do something about that!

The original is 6000 × 4800 pixels at 300 pixels per inch. The painting was created in Photoshop from the original photo I took that day. I have included a few detail cutaways so you may see the details of the painting. The detail cutaways are at 50% of the original size of the artwork.
