Artist's Description

*When we trade gods for technology
Then to circuits we will pray
And we won’t give an apology
To the gods that we betray

We’ll seek to be immortal too
Through science into space
And stumble forth without a clue
Of what really is our place

We won’t expect the gods reply
On the mess we’ll surely make
In arrogance, we’ll justify
Each action that we take

We’ll worship our intelligence
In churches made of steel
Trade faith for only ‘common sense’
While true gods we’ll conceal

Last laugh will still belong to gods
As we seek to fill their roles
Because in the end despite the odds
Gods know they’ll have our souls*

This fractal artwork was inspired by an abstract thought that came about after watching a news short about how a couple had their dog cloned in Korea after it had died. The dogs owners just shipped a few cells from their dead dog and sent them off to Korea to manufacture a duplicate of the original. Mankind playing god again…

It brought to mind, how we as humans are increasingly trying to cross over into a realm that belongs to something much greater than all of us. This lead to thinking about what it may look like when humans tried to build a planet with technology… and this is what I came up with. I know… just another one of those abstract tangents of thought! :)

The ‘planet factory’ is a fractal that I created in Incendia. I created the space background and sun in Photoshop. The original is 6000 × 4800 pixels at 300 pixels per inch. Because the original is so large and difficult to see over the internet, I have included a couple of detail cutaways below. The cutaways are at 33% of the full size image.
