Artist's Description

*A single shiny candle
Points up at empty sky
Held tightly by it’s handle
As the minutes tick on by

The candle lighters scurry
Like bees within a hive
Waiting as they worry
For the window to arrive

It mustn’t be too soon
It mustn’t be too late
They hear the counter croon
As they patiently await

Then zero is announced
At the end of counter’s chore
The Lift off is pronounced
With the candle’s flaming roar

The candle climbs to space
Till it’s just a fading glow
The workers they embrace
They’ve made the launch window*

This painting was inspired by the term I hear rocket scientists use in regard to the time span when any particular rocket launch must take place in order for it to arrive at it’s intended destination. I was feeling kind of silly and whimsical, so I decided to put my own fun spin on this old phrase. I hope it gives you a little chuckle!
