Artist's Description

*Electro-chemical spark does find
Axon receptors within the mind
Then to the dendrite spark does wind
To begin new spark with those aligned

Our thoughts are such a complex task
Their home lies in our skull’s thick cask
Create the feelings in which we bask
And conjure questions that we ask

So little known of this network
A mass of wiring gone berserk
Within it where our thoughts do lurk
Our minds the body’s file clerk*

This fractal artwork was inspired by the wondrous complexity that gives us our thoughts. There are about 100 billion neurons in the average human brain. Each neuron communicates with up to 10,000 other neurons, which in turn communicate with up to another 10,000 neurons and so on. This creates an infinite network of signals moving through the brain creating our thoughts. The internet pales in comparison to just one average human brain in the complexity of it’s networking.

In the artwork, each neuron is represented by the black terminus of the spiraling arms. If you were to look closely you would see that every neuron in the artwork is connected to every other neuron, representing our complex ‘neural network’. The original is very large and it would take years to try and trace each branch between each neuron. Even with this inherent complexity within the artwork, it still falls far short of the actual neural network you are using just to view the artwork. The whole concept is pretty fascinating isn’t it!? This artwork was created in ChaosPro, and the gradient used was created with the ChaosPro gradient editor.
