Willows on the Water

A slender silver willow, leaning over a clear, rushing brook
That flows gently through the fields and meads;
It’s like a song that shines and shimmers as
Moonlight and starlight seeds.
See the willows on the waters?
O beloved and blessed as Nature’s daughters,
Raising silver- and- emerald-bound tresses to look
Where there might be a golden sunset or a moonlit nook.

When the evening shades have faded into a dawning light,
Listen for the swifts as they sing joyfully in flight
Gaze across the lake… the whispers of memory
Reflections and refractions
Of willows on the water.
