Artist's Description

Excerpt from book:

’[…]Focus on the things which usually go unnoticed and unremarked […]Their simplistic and fragile beauty is something which I find incredibly emotive, as while they are their own individual selves, they are also a reflection of all life, and at the heart, its ephemeral essence.

Dandelions are incredibly plentiful plants- so plentiful in some areas that they are known as weeds and pests- but there is something about them which appeals to the soul- the way that they seem ready to float into the air at the slightest breeze. Therefore, it is hard to take a photograph of something which we have all seen time and time again: the little white seedhead on the side of the road, on the way to work perhaps, struggling amidst the smog and exhaust fumes, buffeted by the cars going past. Or maybe in the park in the city, or in the paddock in the country. So what is it about the little common yet not unremarkable dandelion? Is it because it personifies man’s own struggle to find his Purpose, against Fate? Or just because we are drawn to its simplicity and its pure beauty- reminders of our happy childhood making daisy chains and blowing the dandelion heads into the wind- in a world increasingly full of materialism?
Or even, just because.

Accordingly I’ve tried to capture the essence of this delicate yet resilient little work of art in my photography, the facets which make up this paradigm of nature’s jewels: the delicate dancer of the flower world, fragile, engendering some sort of aesthetic pathos; the threadlike seeds ready to propagate the species, seemingly tough yet featherlike.’
