Long time ago, there was this awesome song, by an awesome group – I’m thinking it was “It’s a Beautiful Day” then again it may have been “Dan Hicks & His Hot Licks” – either way, the song went:
“There’s a girl in my room and her face on the wall with no eyes…”
Ahh! I found it!! What a trip, this really takes me back…
This is one of her eyes…

Awesome work!
Thank you Dayonda :)
This piece seems to shimmer. The eye is haunting… composition is interesting. retro contemporary.

Thank you izzybeth. I was after a way to introduce a focal point that was memorable. I’m’ glad you like it.
Love the gold-edged illuminations – not sure the position of the eye is in conversation with the illumination? her gaze is direct? have you tried other directions?
Thank you Keith! I essentially used an advert as the basis for this, and it was a direct gaze. Kind of creeped me out just a little, and as I thought about the song (in the description) I was really liking that aspect. I did not attempt any other direction, but I’m thinking of doing more on this particular subject. I will certainly experiment with other directions.
Thank you for the lessons! I will go look up what it means for an object to be in conversation with its illumination… (I have no training at all)
Dear Anthony – I merely mean that here can be a tension between any two thing – if they know they are in tension then they are in a conversation – cosmetic comes from cosmos which simply means the organisation of stars into patterns or conversations (constellations). So, does the eye decoration talk with the eye or merely sit next to the eye.
Oh! How wonderful. I had never thought of it like that. And now I understand… The reflection in the eye has nothing to do with the objects surrounding it, so, in this case, the decorations are simply next to the eye, and there is no conversation. Nice!
Of course, now I’ll have to actually fix that. A small part of me wanted to say “Hmm – yeah, that is just the effect I wanted” but that would not be true.
Thank you so very much!
I think this is great…the girl’s eye seems, to me, to be looking directly at what is going on…observing what’s past the decoration…if only people could learn to look past the decoration put in life to, I think, purposely sway their observation off what is really going on in this world….it might be a better world with no animosity (wars, poverty etc) controlling it.
I like the interpretation Chris. Decoration is often a metaphor for smokescreen I believe. And while I concur with the wish, I think that humankind at its basest level is rather ego-centric, and this leads to agendas which unfortunately lead many to believe that they can get what they want more easily via the side-step, under cover of a smokescreen, a deceptive decoration. Then, its not simply the deceit, but the realization that inspires anger. The more powerful the players the more dire the consequences the less we see and the more it hurts. I too wish it was different.
Thank you for your comments Chris :)
Agree with you Anthony…a lot of ego-centric problems in this world…did a painting titled Higher Self Above Ego…depicts what the ego brings and what living from the higher self offers.
Wow, I just took a closer look at that work. Very cool, and thought provoking. It would be good if more folks took that “higher path” :)
Sure would…the only way really to bring love and peace into this world…all under the control of everyone to be individually responsible if that’s what they want in this world :)
This is an intense, all seeing and all knowing eye…beautiful life in this eye and I love the composition and colour. Beautiful work Anthony. And I like how it is just one eye…makes it very myserious.

P.S. had to send this again because I spelt mysterious wrong in first comment. This is the right one :)
Thank you for the encouraging comments Anthea! …mysterious… Cool :)
One of my biggest challenges with depicting real things is getting that life quality in there – I’m so glad it made it into this one—thank you for noticing that :)
good to see you here thanks for posting tony and welcome to MIA
Thank you Tone! It is good to be here, such an awesome concept is M.I.A. :)
