The Lover and the Loved

There’s a sense

Like a blunt knife through your spine feeling
That creeps from deep
in the pit
Of dirty midnight cities

It makes you turn
Eyes fear locked
Naked, shadowed and shrieking

Fixated
On something fleshy
Scented
Like smoked stawberries or over ripe mango
Hovering in the shadows
Under a red bulb haze

It calls coyly teasing commandingly
In a voice you woke to
Soft and warm

That
Very
Same
Morning

The Lover and the Loved
