What Makes You Happy

What makes you happy?
She said
I said
After pausing
Now that’s a question

She waited.

What makes you want to wake up in the morning, what makes you laugh?
Now that was three questions
I fingered my brain

She looked at me

And waited

When someone, anyone asks you that question
Any one of those questions
You want to know
You want to know
The answer

But you say
money, or love, or health, or sunshine in a forest

But that is not the answer
And you know it

She’s looking straight through me now

She wants me to say it
To open my mouth and speak
To tell her that she
Alone
Makes
Me
Happy
That she is the reason I live

I cringe
Not because its not true
But because
My heart has bloomed a thousand hearts
And those thousand hearts
A thousand hearts
And they all
Make
Me Happy

I cringe
And I face her
I uncover my fear
I am steel

What makes you happy
I softly
venture

What Makes You Happy
