I'm Always Fine

Your breath can slow
in this cold, when the air mists
Sitting pissed with clenched fists,
Cursing outside souls for pains wrought
Blame game harbinger
These scars taught
us to dodge-not flinch,
run, or chase.
Life’s more cunning blade
is self inflicted me
pacing sick
A night goes by sometimes
when I barely get to numb before the ache sets

Your chin must stay solid
In the low times.
When jabs and sucker shots
Take what you’ve got….what you feel,
To a basement of doubt and fear
Where breathing is forced
Emotion coerced
Walls close in
Buckling cement
Lights, they dampen

Resiliency is key
Smiling back with bloody teeth
Confront to release
these blows life’s thrown
Won’t topple me
My path has frayed
From these aching weights
The ghosts and time gone by
Have come to bind me
but I’m at untying knots
Watch the wrath of a man past gone
In survival mode
Compassion run cold
growling hound
With teeth gnashed out
Prepared to bite
An opposing crowd

Wake today in a relieved state
Seeing that mirrors eyes come back
Seeking lost time
Lusting for redemption
From the first time
But these lips snarl stubborn
With sharp wits slow burn
The tendency is to leave
Dull stones unturned
And shunned in turn
This chorus is a mantra,
deeply believed and oft repeated
“I’m fine”
“I’m always fine”

I'm Always Fine

Artist's Description

For any time I’ve been low and feeling defeated, I’ve countered with a stubborn handling of the loathing. its not quite so much ying and yang but a learned juggle
