Split Shift Nate

Spare a thought for split shift Nate,
He clocks in early and gets home late,
The local employers have closed their doors,
Key operations have been off-shored,
Overworked and underpaid,
His hope and dreams, to rest now laid,
He’s done courses, exams, again and again,
But it seems all the work has been in vain,
Others would laugh if they saw his remittance,
For the hours that he works, it’s truly a pittance,
It’s hard to function in a sleep deprived haze,
Or provide for three kids on a minimum wage,
His contract’s been changed to zero hours,
It’s demand and supply, and HR hold the power,
He can’t complain or go there and sob,
They’ve got fifty more people who want his job,
Sadly stories like these spread like a contagion,
Profits all, workers nil in this crazy equation,
What has led to this dire situation?
The end of growth in western nations.
