The Shadow in the Wind

The treated contaminated soil was apparently within viable toxicity levels.
It was hailed as breakthrough technology that would heal the world.
But now it was a mess of watermelon carcasses.

“It’s sad really”
Poor creature thinking they were his eggs to hatch
“Yeh he must be so lonely for a mate”
Look he’s coming back….Run!!!.”

Rodan flew back over the watermelon field.
The heat from his massive body heating up the watermelons, splattering melon guts around like chunky confetti.
He sensed the human’s fear as they scattered beneath him.

Instinctively Rodan opened his immense claws ready to hunt.
His shadow cast a measurable dark omen, a gigantic winged creature without a home.

Suddenly a sickly sweet odor stung the air.
Rodan smelt this new death and changed tactics.
He left his prey to another fate; if the winds picked up then the lethal watermelon scent would in time find them all.
