My Furry Companion

My dear, beautiful furry companion is patiently waiting by my side as I finish work on the computer tonight. Binky cat is so lovely and faithful, she is curled up in a ball, waiting for mummy to finish up. She’s just purred a “hurry up, love you mum” kind of noise. So sweet! She follows me round the house for most of the day, like a little dog. She even sits on the edge of the bath while I’m in it, waiting for me and delicately balancing on velvet pussy feet, trying not to fall in.

At night she quite often spends her time with me too. Sometimes she will nose her way under the duvet and curl up beside me until she gets too hot (with my electric blanket on too, lol). Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and am aware of a heavy(ish) black weight on my chest – and it’s my dear little Binky.

She was rescued from a shed full of kittens and mother cats, all bred for a quick profit – nothing more. There were no litter trays, no food bowls, just adult dry cat food scattered over the floor and cat wee and poo everywhere. Many of her little friends had sore and bulging eyes. It was terrible. The people just let their kids deal with us, to take our money. So I reported them to our local RSPCA. I didn’t find out what happened, hopefully they were stopped from carrying on this dire trade.

You know, I can’t wait to go to Cameroon in December to look after the monkeys and apes who have been rescued from the bush meat trade. And to work with the local children with my monkey puppets. But I don’t want to leave my Binky, or Kitty, or Lilly cat. I am leaving Martin strict instructions on how to take on my role as Mummy Cat for a few weeks, and I hope he does a good job!
