Dance

‘Rage is such an interesting thing,’ she thought, as the balletic movements surrounded her.

The limbs moved gently; swaying and moving in time to an unwritten score. She found the way the head swayed was quite rhythmic and beautiful, and she was fascinated briefly.

‘It’s as if it has its own language,’ she mused as the bodies stirred together. There was a unity to the movements – one would move, and then the other. It was true cause and effect. She couldn’t hear the sounds for the roaring in her ears, but the silence simply added grace and elegance to the shape of the interactions.

‘I have often wondered,’ she thought, as the beat picked up a pace and the action changed direction, ‘what causes someone to construct something as complex, and yet so beautifully simple, as this?’

She was swept up in the moment, amazed, and it took another beat for her to find her breath. Everything seemed to have slowed down, and the dance was amplified. Her attention was taken by the faces of those involved, mashed into grimaces and over-extended emotions. It was a very moving experience.

The dance was evocative of something else she knew, something close and intimate.

‘I think I finally know now,’ she silently spoke, and her body filled with a sense which was much like relief. ‘I’ve been racing to discover what the truth of this was, but I think I’ve found it.’

She danced again in another complex manoeuvre, spinning before she could regain her balance. The man she danced with turned sharply with his angled elbow and hand upraised.

‘This is his truth. This is who he really is. Finally I can see him for what he is,’ she sighed inside. They were dancing that dance of truth she knew they’d always find. The realisation was sweet and tender for she’d worked it out. She’d won.

The roaring surged louder inside her ears.

He spat another expletive as his fist struck the side of her head again, and she felt the blood inside her lips.
