the bait

i come as a speechless star
in a supermarket
a blurred untitled sea
without spectacles
a tropical gargoyle
in a cabbage patch
with a black welcome suspended
in a coccoon
i abandon the fungi i needed
on the mercury farm
crucified under a nuclear umbrella
i am raising the stakes
of the apple taboo
with swine sandwiches and glossy
pornographic playing cards
then the yellow cathedral’s cardinal
(singing from silver to scarlet) arises out of the dust
i am eating raven’s eggs
in the rain
i am ready for the black swan
on the black river again
and for the perfect stillness
of the bait

the bait
