confetti

the confetti of autonomy’s graffiti
our counterfeit tropical curiosity
masquerades
openly
while I write a note to myself
when I was five
and the stamp over my initial
was licked
peppermint paper
that cut the tongue
the first letter
told me nothing
about the land of the dead
where the living lived as if forever
the second stamp was marked
with a smudge of blackness
and I could see the blind
dolls in my chest
fade into your storybook apology
the next letter of my name appeared
on the blank paper of the 3rd stamp
enveloped in a liturgy of smiles and nods
all in pictures of unnameable colors
flashing warning signs reflected in the wet
roads
I’m a little confused about a lot of things
that don’t matter to the first part of the lie
required by the fourth form without a stamp
you didn’t listen when you asked for a question
about the absence literally just seconds ago
I gave up on you or not
you are really good
because you look like an idiot
playing with a bad haircut on a table saw
yes honestly
I like burns and slashes
through the plastic paper covering
the numbers that reorganize the rest of the plate
in pieces
the ancestors will paint them if you let me
go
