Artist's Description

This is a woodcut. I used to have an old range that had fat electric rings… I made a series of woodcuts by burning them on the rings of the stove. I would do this in a variety of ways to gain a 3D effect. Basically I would make the initial design by very lightly burning the arcs from the rings into the wood.
with each succesive “burn” I would apply more pressure to increase the depth of the mark… making it whiter or grayer in the finished print.
I would always print with a baren and my bare hands on very sheer japanese or other asian handmade paper. By printing in this manner I could control tonality.
