Artist's Description

This bull Elk was watching his rival carefully and ready for any sign of a challenge. It was late afternoon at Mammoth Springs, Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, in the Fall of 2010. There were three large bulls with their harems and they were continually trying to steal each others cows as it was the rutting season. It made for interesting viewing, although a little dangerous at times. The elk become very irritable and aggressive at this time. This particular group of animals spend a lot of time grazing and resting around the old buildings of the town, and are used to having people around, but they are completely wild and can be extremely dangerous if approached too closely.

Canon EOS 550D. Canon EF 70-300mmIS @ 300mm.
