I grew up in Appalachia, playing on these river banks.
Wild Blue Banks
In moments all too hushed and surreal,
A captivating mist gathers in remembrance,
Of the endless barefoot adventurers,
Whose wildest dreams had lived in this place.
Those brave daydreaming knights,
Brandishing fallen tree branch swords,
Protected by ant infested tree bark shields,
Whose duty it had been to daringly rescue…
Those beautiful star gazing princesses,
Adorned with chigger filled thistles in their hair,
And dandelion chain jewels around their necks,
Sitting trapped in their tree top castle towers.
Together they had, time and again, for centuries,
Slain the fierce and sinister fire breathing dragons,
In epic battles that raged along these wild blue banks,
Meandering through Appalachia.
