Artist's Description

Though this wasn’t actually taken on a Sunday, that’s what this picture reminds me of! Looking toward the Mission Mountains from the Bison Range in Moiese, Montana.

Growing up in western Montana, I laughed at my friends who couldn’t wait to graduate and leave our beautiful state. I’ve always been in awe of the beauty of the mountains, trees, and water that remain pristine. In 2000 I set out on an adventure that landed me in Pennsylvania, where I’ve remained, though much of my heart remains in Montana. In June of 2008 I married the love of my life, who just happened to grow up dreaming of moving to (of all places) Montana someday (I’m happy to say that we plan to move west in a few years). I took this photo during our honeymoon to the Flathead Valley of Montana. I love the way the road curves off into the distance, as though it’s beckoning me home to my mountains. Home, to the place I belong.

received third place in the ‘landscape’ category of the Elizabethtown Fair, 2008
