Summer Daydreams

It was one of those perfect days. Time had stood still and the only sound that could be heard was the bees. Relentlessly they collected pollen from the purple spiked lavender that lined the path.

The cat had taken refuge under a leafy dahlia. Slumped, he twitched now and then when flies used his tail as a landing strip

The sun was like a demon, ruling the sky, uninhabited by cloud. I noticed a group of scurrying ants at my feet. They seemed in a hurry like frantic Christmas shoppers, avoiding each other, each one with their own particular agenda.

The citrus flowers of lemon and lime filled the air on the villa verandah. Heady and sweet.

I leaned back, sipped Earl Grey from fine china. The rattan armchair creaked slightly and soon my eyes closed. I had lost myself to the perfect summer’s afternoon.
