Artist's Description

Jesus is Calming the Storm
Matt.8:23-27 Mark 4:37-41 Luke 8:22-25
Jesus and his disciples got into a boat on the Sea of Galilee to go to the other side. Jesus was very tired from teaching the great multitudes of people, so he fell asleep. A squall came and they were in great danger. This lake is situated in a basin between 2 mountains and is particularly susceptible to sudden violent storms. This is due to the cool air from the Mediterranean Sea which is drawn in to the narrow mountain passes and clashes with the hot, humid air over the lake. It can become almost like an earthquake and sometimes can cause Tornadic waterspouts. Needless to say the disciples were freaking out since Jesus was asleep. Panicking they woke up the Master. “ Lord save us” They were afraid of drowning. Jesus told them not to fear and got up rebuked the wind and the raging waters that were overtaking the boat. And immediately the storm subsided. They disciples were in shock and awe and they asked one another “Who is this that he commands even the winds and water and they obey him?” Jesus turned and said to them ”Where is your faith” ( for they had been witnesses to Jesus’ many miracles already)Psalm 107:25-30. They were witness to the power of God demonstrated by Jesus his son yet again. You would think by now they knew he was from God by what they saw daily. Jesus tells them “oh ye of little faith. Many believed because they saw his miracles back then, Jesus told those, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” John 20:29 Imagine the disciples of Jesus whose faith was waiving. We see how human they are. So we need not be down on ourselves when we experience lack of our faith. Habakkuk 2:4B But the righteous will live by his faith. God is telling us to live by the faith of his son Jesus the Christ. We are to wait patiently trusting in God. Isaiah 26:1-6 I will keep your in perfect peace those whose mind is steadily trusting in him.
Look at the work of God through Jesus in Romans 4 and 5. All God asks of us is to believe and we will see. Romans 8:11 and if the spirit who raised Jesus from the dead is now living in us, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his spirit who lives in you.( the mystery which is no longer hidden)Colossians 1:27.
Jesus would not forsake them; he gave his life for them and for us. Read on in Romans 8. Jesus tells us not to be afraid, he will not leave us and he will comfort us. Nothing will separate us from the love of Christ. He will be there for you,ask and he will get you through your storm. Romans 8:35- 39.
