Yes, this is the next card in the Tarot series.. "The Hanged Man’ – or in this case ‘Woman’. But I wanted to dedicate it to our new group Pink Panther Magazine , whose fabulous members have enabled me see the world from a different perspective.

The Hanged Man is not the scary card people imagine it to be. It is quite the reverse. It is about seeing things clearly – often for the first time. The man is shown hanging fro a tree or a cross – always with one leg in the 4 position.

The song that I could not rid myself of – all the time I was creating this- was “I can See Clearly Now” by the wonderful Bob Marley. It was perfect for the image.

The continuing story….

You settle beneath a tree, intent on finding your spiritual self. There you stays for nine days, without eating, barely moving. People pass by him, animals, clouds, the wind, the rain, the stars, sun and moon. On the ninth day, with no conscious thought of why, you climb a branch and dangle upside down like a child, giving up for a moment, all that you are.

Coins fall from your pockets and as you gaze down on them – seeing them not as money but only as round bits of metal – everything suddenly changes perspective. It is as if you are hanging between the mundane world and the spiritual world, able to see both. It is a dazzling moment, dreamlike yet crystal clear. Connections you never understood before are made, mysteries are revealed.

But timeless as this moment of clarity seems, you realize that it will not last. Very soon, you must right your self, and when you do things will be different. You will have to act on what you have learned.

The Hanged Man is a card about suspension, not life or death. This is a time of trial or meditation, selflessness, sacrifice, prophecy. It is time to stop resisting; time to make yourself vulnerable. Answers that eluded you become clear, solutions to problems are found. You see the world differently, and have almost mystical insights. This card can also imply a time when everything just stands still, a time of rest and reflection before moving on. Things will continue on in a moment, but for now, they float, timeless.
This was created in CS4. Four different textures that I created were blended together to create the background. The tree was hand painted with media brushes an painted on the Wacom. Layer styles were added and bark texture applied.

These then were merged and a chrome filter used to give the gold effects. To paint the blossom I used a small round brush – with all the brush settings changed to scatter and shape the blossom. Again layer styles and blending modes were used for shadow and light and to make them golden.

The pears were added and blending modes used extensively so they became a glowing golden colour. The coloured birds were added , with one of them looking curiously at the woman, and the other hanging upside down mirroring the woman. These were from my own stock.

The model was not easy – as she was obviously upright to start with. I had to reverse everything that hung downwards – her hair and her necklace and move her limbs somewhat. Several layers of her were blended together.

I am grateful to mizzd-stock for the model.
