Artist's Description

Clivia is the name of a genus of Amaryllidaceae, monocotyledons plants originating in Africa.
The species known as an ornamental plant is a C. illuminated, which is un’erbacea perennial, 40-50 cm high, with persistent leaves dark green, arranged in a fan.

In winter brings, above scape robust, un’ombrella 20-30 Campanula flowers, orange to faded yellow throat which bloom almost simultaneously

Among the other cultivated species are mentioned C. gardenia and C. nobilis, are also cultivated varieties also leaves and flowers in large petals very broad, intensely and variously colored, such as C. orange.

Plant vigorous and rustic but sensitive to frost, in more temperate zones is used for borders in gardens, or grown in the greenhouse for winter decoration of the apartments.

The name “Clivia” comes from Lady Charlotte Clive Florentine Duchess of Northumberland to which this plant was dedicated by John Lindley in 1828 when ranked for the first time Clivia nobilis.
