Oh, there is nothing like the skater’s art-
The poetry of circles;nothing like
The fleeting beauty of his crystal floor.
Above his head the winter sunbeams dart;
Beneath his feet flits fast the frightened pike.
Skate while you may;the morrow skates no more. ~ excerpt from An Elfin Skate, Eugene Lee Hamilton, 1892
The nights are finally becoming cold enough for our local ponds and streams to freeze. My old ice skates were sitting on my porch reminding me of some good times. I did not learn to ice skate until I was in my forties and managed to do it several times without a single fall, incredible! So, I decided to hang up the skates and quit on a good note so to speak. :) Now, they are a great Christmas decoration….but just maybe, once again……….. :)
