Artist's Description

Winsor and Newton watercolors

Squirrels are first attested in the Eocene, about 40 million years ago, and are most closely related to the mountain beaver and to dormice among other living species. Unlike rabbits and deer, squirrels cannot digest celluose and must rely on food rich in protein, carbohydrates and fat. In temperate regions, early spring is the hardest time of year for squirrels because buried nuts begin to sprout and are no longer available for squirrels to eat, and new food sources are not available yet. During these times, squirrels have been known to eat insects, eggs, small birds, young snakes, and smaller rodents. ref: Wikipedia

This little fellow is the only one brave enough to come to my bird feeder today. I think there may be a red-tailed hawk in the vicinity. He was perched on the highest tree branch outside my window overlooking the garage roof. I could not resist doing him as a watercolor.
