Room to Groove

In the half darkness,
beneath books and writings,
hide Queens of the Stoneage, White Stripes
Sound Garden, Pearl Jam,
and my Dark Side of the Moon

Clean clothes are stacked in open drawers,
a collection of lighters

Uniforms worn while building a boardwalk,
hanging plaster, counting trees, cooking chooks,
stacked upon learnings
amidst tools, games, controls and weights

Juxtapoz, Mythology, Real Cars, Monster Children

Surf, cars and chicks adorn the walls,
some raw art painted on and
stickers hide the door.
Stars twinkle on the ceiling
as his sisters smile from a mirror

His mate brought jelly babies,
after a party night
years ago,
ate one or two and left them there
sweet, sun-bleached,
not even the ants are tempted.
Expiry date October ‘07

a wrinkly apple

but stacked neatly inside the cupboard,
Sam’s old vinyl records and treasured books.
