On that particular day
I was feeling nervous
About the house

Through the swirling mist
I could see the hills

A sudden feeling,
Vertigo came over me

Blind panic,
I could not see

I tried to climb the stairs
But I fell

My legs
Just wouldn’t work

So steep,
I dragged myself up
Hand over hand
Nervous sweat pouring out
Of every gland

I crawled along the landing
To my room

Hauled myself into bed
I couldn’t even stand

For a day I stayed in that room
Feeling nothing but gloom

Eventually something snapped
I knew what was happening
And I stood
And I walked

I had heard scratching
And a little sniffle
I wondered what was happening
Perhaps I was still dreaming

It was Fizzy the dog
Wanting to do her business
I was starving
She must have been too!

As I opened the bedroom door
Up she leapt
With what energy
She had left

We had a breakfast
Of sausages and beans
Luckily her water had not run out
But I thought ‘What have I done’?

My nerves had got the better of me
And I had been too blind to see
