Artist's Description

This image was taken at the May Day parade in Melbourne. The person in the image was a singer in a choir. She is a socialist

During the singing of the workers song she was overcome with emotion and couldn’t sing for a short while.

As a former political activist ( not very active, probably political inactivist is more accurate) I must say I found the songs very stirring and remind me of my uni days.

I also find it refreshing to hear views that are so different to the views portrayed in the media. It is so easy to fall into the trap of believing that the media views are the correct way of looking at the world.

For instance terrorists are painted as bad, yet the west trained Osama Bin Laden as a terrorist to do terrorist things against the Russians. He was lauded as a hero then.

When he does the same things against us he is painted as a villain. So it is not the actions that are bad it is who they are done against. Very confusing

I am a pacifist and apolitical now but it is good to hear different viewpoints.

Image was taken with a Canon G9
