Artist's Description

This image was taken at Karrakatta Cemetery Perth while visiting some family graves.

I took this image because I kinda like marble and its whiteness and shadows. I also like religious sort of themes being quite religious when I was young.

One of the questions that came to mind when processing this image is how far should I alter this image in processing

Most of my photos are done in a photojurnalistic style, that is fairly realistically. This gives them a documentary value as there is no cloning or layers or that sort of thing.

On the other hand an image like this lends itself to dramatic shadings burnings in and all sorts of manipulations to make a more arty sort of image. Which of course also have value.

I was reminded of this question after watching a video of Gary Winogrand a very famous street photographer from New York.

Gary’s images are beautiful but they are totally works of art and not photojournalistic at all. His photos are just the material that he uses to produce art
.
I went for a realistic style mostly because I am feeling lazy and the art stuff needs a lot more work.
