Torre is mainland Portugal’s highest point at 1,993 m (6,539 ft) above mean sea level. Just below the summit of Torre, on the road toward Manteigas at Covão Ox lies an area of surreal granite columns amongst which this religious statue “Senhora da Boa Estrela”, the patron saint of shepards has been carved into the rock. Sculpted in 1946 by Antonio Duarte.
