I have been wanting to catch a good Sunrise and I woke at 5am on the 8th Jan 2011 and decided to try this one. When I got to Umina Beach there were a few other people up walking themselves and their Dogs. I scouted about to find an interesting angle and view and settled on the rock you see before you. The tide was comming in but it was still low enough to show the rocks wonderfully. The colours were mostly dull till just at the end and then the sky came alive. the Colours were amazing and the sky at one point really did look to be on fire.
The image was shot with a Nikon D300 using the 11-16mm Tokina F2.8 set at 13mm. The camera was set to f18 and a 1.3sec exposure. I was also using a split ND filter to control the brightness of the sky.
