A Sonnet - Unrequited Love

What do I have to give her
But the love of a poor simple man?
How I do hope your eyes can see
Why my heart is set enthralled?

What can I do to tell you
Of a love just hurtfully held,
Of attempts by me to woo,
When the world derides a fool.

Her head is turned by title
Of the type that I’ll never own
And social position is vital
For her, when she is alone.

Think of me, then, a poor man
Dismissed with a wave of a hand.

Artist's Description

Unrequited love is awful. I suffer it some years ago. Then I locked up my heart until Bonnie (my wife) came along in 1998. We met on the Internet.
