Artist's Description

I am sure that the farmers thought that their world was upside down. The Gore Farmers lost some of their grazing pastures after the heavy rains. The pastures were transformed into mini lakes creating beautiful reflections in the water as the sun was setting. This would have been devastating for the farmers but even in times of devastation natures creates a beautiful scene.
Flood warnings were in place across the South Island as heavy rains swelled rivers and closed roads. The Mataura River at Gore peaked and flood it banks engulfing farmers grazing land.
The Makarewa River also peaked and passed through Tussock Creek on the 8th of Feb 2011 reaching a height of 4 metres above normal, which was slightly lower than predicted.
