Artist's Description

I watched this male peacock displaying his beautiful tail to his lady love. It is a display that takes your breath away, they have such magnificent coloring that shimmers in the sunlight and for a while I just sat in awe and watched his beautiful display taking in the sounds of the quivering quills as he danced and turned ensuring he was always facing his lady love.
The male (peacock) Indian Peafowl has iridescent blue-green or green colored plumage. The so-called “tail” of the peacock, also termed the “train,” is not the tail quill feathers but highly elongated upper tail coverts. The train feathers have a series of eyes that are best seen when the tail is fanned. Both species have a crest atop the head. Male peacocks display their iridescent feathers for prospective female mates. Females may check out the feathers of a number of different males before deciding on a suitor. The length and quality of a male peacock’s feathers can indicate his age, vigor, and status.
