Storm front 28 January 1010
A strong storm shelf cloud approaching Terranora, NSW during the afternoon. We got not one drop from this monster, dumped it all to the west out there.

Shelf couds belong to the Arcus cloud group – low, horizontal cloud formations. Roll clouds and shelf clouds are the two types of arcus clouds. A shelf cloud is usually associated with the leading edge of thunderstorm outflow; roll clouds (such as the Gulf of Carpentaria’s ‘Morning Glory’ annual event) are usually formed by outflows of cold air from sea breezes or cold fronts in the absence of thunderstorms.
