(9-11/2008) When I saw hurricane Ike taking up the whole Gulf of Mexico and blowing my general direction (in Houston), I decided it was best not to be formally introduced (though he was memorizing with all his pretty colors on the radar, wasn’t he?). So I ended up headin’ up to Austin for a while.
Ironically enough, we ended up hiking and having a very peaceful and restful time. Imagine finding rest and peace in the midst of a storm so ginormous!?! It really doesn’t make sense. But that’s how God works. He gives you just what you need even at a time when it seems most impossible. And he’s always doing the impossible it seems- making even dead things come alive, just like this cacti that I painted. And sometimes it’s even a miracle when he brings living things together- just like the two heart shaped cacti in the middle. I know it’s a little cheesy but the cacti were really shaped like that and it really applies to my life right now as I think about getting married and ponder on the true meaning of promising forever to one man. And as I walk through all the chaos that is working and painting and planning a wedding, beyond my understanding, rest and peace are alive in my life. Now that makes me smile more than all the heart shaped cactus and pretty colors on the radar.
