Forgiveness

What is forgiveness,
beyond a frame of mind?
Is it a state of grace,
does it vindicate the crime?

Does it belong to just the victim,
or to all who see or hear?
Will it take away the doubt,
does it end the latent fear?

Do those who seek forgiveness,
have the right to ask?
Or must they be punished forever,
For mistakes made in the past?

Is there a limit, are there boundaries
for what one can forgive?
Will it really make a difference,
in the way we choose to live?

And if we ask for forgiveness,
does it mean we know we were wrong?
Or is it just asking for acceptance
so we can feel like we still belong?

What if you give forgiveness,
and find that in your heart,
you can’t forgive the wrong done you,
do you move on and make a new start?

Does it make the parting easier,
does it lessen any of the pain?
Will it make tomorrow better,
Or is the outcome still the same?

And if it is you who has asked forgiveness,
For a wrong done in the past,
Does it take away the guilt and shame,
For which forgiveness you asked?

I know not all of the answers,
to the questions asked above
But I am certain that forgiveness Is possible,
when asked and given with love.
