Raven

I once was a raven who flew the skies so free
All of Mother Nature was a friend to me.
Most cherished, respected and never ignored
She provided food, shelter and so much more.

With a friend such as this I cannot understand,
Being destroyed by those who live off her land.
Two legged animals seemed filled with greed
Their only concern is for their immediate need.

Abundance through balance is what she offered
Her gifts were not meant to fill mankind’s coffers.
Like all loving mothers she gave the best she had
But mothers do have limits and can also get mad.

And then there are those of Mother Natures relations
Wind, sun, moon, water have all lost their patience.
For her unruly children who no longer have respect
All gifts freely given, they are determined to wreck.

I once was a raven who flew the skies so free

All of Mother Nature was a friend to me.
Then brother wind became too strong to fly
Our world changed, soon ravens began to die.

They’ve cut too many trees, contaminated the water
Rain burns our wings, I am afraid for my daughter.
How can we protect our young in a world such as this
Where so many die needlessly instead of living in bliss.

I am raven spirit transformed and flying free
Part of earth, wind, sky, how clearly I now see.
If only we agree our young must be protected
Nature will be forgiving, our planet resurrected
