Artist's Description

This may not look like much to you, but this house was my home from Nov 2001 to April 2007. I loved this house for many reasons. It was the first home/house I bought on my own – meaning I am a single mom and got a mortgage to buy a home on my own without an ex husband. Yes I owned other houses but with my ex husband. This house was in the old section of our township – it was a park like setting with lots of woods and a lake and lots of lovely streets to take walks down. Beautiful! the home was spacious – you walked into a kitchen that opened up into a large living room with lots of windows. The dining area off of that had a wall of sliding glass doors out onto a huge deck. I set that up as my home office. One bedroom and bathroom on the first floor that my youngest daughter used. Upstairs was a huge master bedroom almost the length of the house and a smaller bedroom and a full bath. 2 attics. Lovely home. Yes there is a catch we were not aware of when we bought the home. The river that is not visible from the house at all and literally 12 blocks away floods and when it does, it covers the ENTIRE neighborhood with water for at least a week. We are talking 5 – 8 feet of water in the streets folks. that is why the house is built up so high and even though I did not get water inside my home, my furnace, water heater and anything I had store in the basement was ruined, as well as those lovely front steps had to be replaced at a cost of $2200 since being in the water so long the cement turned to sand. Yes I had flood insurance which cost $1800 a year and no it does not cover what you lose, not even close. and the trauma and hassle of going through this. The six years we lived there we were flooded 6 times and I lost over $35,000.

I hated to move but I had no choice. It was too devastating to go through and you never knew when it would happen. My children were anxious every time it rained because one of those floods was literally a flash flood that came out of nowhere.

and whether you believe in haunted houses and ghosts or not, I did not believe in them until I lived in that house. We had someone come in finally and bless the entire house. That is a whole OTHER story I will not go into now.

SO – my piece of heaven which was literally a piece of hell as well. I miss the good parts all the time, and have memories good and bad that will last a lifetime.
