Butterflies

Can you do the butterfly dance?
Can you sit on a flower?
Can you flutter across the fences,
Hour after hour.

Can you do the butterfly waltz,
Can you move with grace?
Remember, to the butterfly,
Life is not a race.

Can you do the flutter by
That this gracious insect does,
And unlike the bumblebee,
Butterflies don’t buzz!

Do you start life on a leaf,
Munching as you grow,
And in a pre-determined time,
In a cocoon you shall go

Curled up inside,
Nice and tight,
Where you go to sleep
Until it’s time to see the light

And when that time does arrive,
We see the butterfly,
Opening its brand new wings
Until they are dry.
